Vermont Farm Trail Network

Vermont Fresh Network is a project partner in the Farm Walk Trail Network, an initiative of food, farming, and agritourism organizations to create a directory of walking trails on farms across Vermont. Hosted on DigInVT.com, the Vermont Farm Walk Trail concept is built on the idea that farms are places for both production and recreation. The onset of COVID-19 catalyzed the project, as people sought safe places to be outdoors.

Launched as part of Vermont Open Farm Week in 2020, the farm trail network proved so popular that winter farm trails (featuring cross country skiing and snow shoeing)were added to DigInVT, thanks to a University of Vermont grant.

Here is a project information sheet.

The Farm Walk Trail network is a collaborative initiative of food, farming, and agritourism organizations to create a directory of walking trails on farms across Vermont. (Farm-Based Education Network, NOFA-VT, Shelburne Farms, UVM Extension, Vermont Fresh Network / DigInVT, Vermont Department of Tourism & Marketing) Farm walks offer Vermonters a healthy and safe place to be outside, engage with the working landscape and get to know their agricultural neighbors. Walks listed on DigInVT feature trails that are on or adjacent to working farms or are conserved historic agricultural land.

The Trail group developed materials for each Farm to provide guidance for the visiting public.
