Open Farm Week

Open Farm Week Header2

For one week in August, farms around Vermont welcome visitors as part of Vermont Open Farm Week.

2024 is the 10th anniversary of Vermont Open Farm Week!  Details to come..

Open Farm week began in 2015. It is a collaborative project organized by members of the Vermont Farm to Plate Network including City Market, DigInVT.com, Shelburne Farms and Farm‐Based Education, NOFA‐VT, University of Vermont Extension, Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Vermont Fresh Network, and the Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing. DigInVT.com is its virtual home.

This program is not only an opportunity for members of the public to learn about Vermont farms and local agriculture, it's also an opportunity for those farms to learn about hosting visitors. Many of the participants in Open Farm Week are not regularly open to the public, but are exploring the possibility of offering agritourism experiences. UVM Extension, Shelburne Farms and the Vermont Fresh Network provide technical assistance to interested farms to help with planning, farm safety, and marketing.

Examples of previous events offered during Open Farm Week include:

  • Garlic braiding workshop
  • Miniature animal petting zoo
  • On-farm dinner and a movie
  • Open house and picnic on scenic farm fields
  • Felting workshop
  • Specialty food production facility tour and tasting
  • Cheesemaking class
